What are the best tires for a wheel loader?

The best wheel loader tires depend on your primary application. For general construction, the Trelleborg EMR 1030 (L-3 tread) offers a balanced combination of traction, cut protection and tread life. For quarry and mining use, the EMR 1040 or EMR 1051 (L-5 tread) provide extra deep compounds and reinforced carcasses for maximum durability on sharp rock. For year round operations including winter, the EMR 1025 all season tire delivers additional grip on snow and ice without requiring seasonal changeovers.

What is the advantage of radial tires over bias ply tires on wheel loaders?

Radial loader tires have a fundamentally different construction from bias ply (diagonal) tires. The radial carcass produces a larger, flatter contact patch, which distributes the load more evenly across the tread surface. This results in lower rolling resistance (reducing fuel consumption), higher operator comfort, better lateral stability under heavy bucket loads and significantly longer tread life. In demanding applications such as quarrying, radial loader tires can last 2 to 3 times longer than equivalent bias ply tires (Source: Tire and Rim Association, Year Book 2024).

What tire sizes are available for wheel loaders?

Trelleborg’s EMR range covers standard earth moving sizes from 17.5R25 and 20.5R25 for compact and mid size loaders up to 26.5R25 and 29.5R25 for large production machines. Each size is available in multiple load indices and speed ratings. A complete listing of all wheel loader tyre sizes and their technical specifications is available in the EMR Series Technical Documentation or through the product filter on this page.

What do the tread codes L-2, L-3 and L-5 mean?

These are standardized tread pattern classifications defined by the Tire and Rim Association (TRA). L-2 denotes a traction pattern for general use on softer surfaces. L-3 is a rock tread designed for harder terrain with increased cut resistance, making it the most popular choice for general construction and loading operations. L-5 features extra deep tread (smooth or lugged) for the most severe environments such as quarries, open pit mines and recycling yards. The Trelleborg EMR series covers L-2 through L-5, with the specific tread code indicated in each model designation.

How should I set the inflation pressure on my wheel loader tires?

The correct inflation pressure depends on the tire size, load index, axle load and operating speed (measured as TKPH: Tonne Kilometres Per Hour). Over inflation increases tread wear and reduces traction. Under inflation causes excessive sidewall flexing, heat buildup and premature failure. Trelleborg publishes recommended inflation pressures for each EMR model in its Technical Documentation. As a general guideline, operators should check tire pressure at least once per week when the tire is cold (before work begins) and adjust according to the load being carried.

Where can I buy Trelleborg wheel loader tires?

Trelleborg wheel loader tires are available through authorized distributors and dealers worldwide. Use the Dealer Locator to find your nearest partner, or use the contact form on this page to request a quote directly from Trelleborg’s construction tire team. Authorized dealers can also advise on correct fitment, rim compatibility and inflation pressure settings for your specific machine.
